Barack Obama (pictured), whose campaign theme is "change we can believe in," promised Thursday to "spell out exactly what that change would mean."
But instead of dwelling on specifics, he laced the crowning speech of his long campaign with the type of rhetorical flourishes that Republicans mock and the attacks on John McCain that Democrats cheer.
He made little attempt to assure voters that he actually is able to lead the most powerful country in the free world. Surely his speechwriters could have thought of something he could say that would speak to any experience that would help him be a better president than his opponent.
